Architecture That Gives More Than It Takes
I’ve spent decades photographing buildings that aspire to permanence, but permanence is no longer enough. The Regenerative Architecture Index (RAI), from Architecture Today and UK Architects Declare, is a vital benchmark for practices serious about shaping a future that’s not just sustainable, but generous, beneficial and kind; to us and the planet.
This isn’t about checking boxes. It’s about real leadership in three urgent areas:
Be a Good Ancestor – Design for the seventh generation, not just the next client.
Co-evolve with Nature – Don’t fight the ecosystem. Join it.
Create Just Space – Make architecture that restores community as well as environment.
RAI entrants join a growing movement and gain access to exclusive opportunities, including the competition to design the International School of Rewilding and Regenerative Agriculture on the Isle of Wight.
Any practice with ambition and with an eye on an emerging force in not just architecture but how we make a better relationship with all of nature’s systems should, please, consider getting involved.
